In 2003 MGC Advanced Polymers,
Inc., invested and licensed by Japanese chemical manufacturer
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (Tokyo, Japan), constructed
a proprietary state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in
Colonial Heights, Virginia, to produce MX Nylon, a polymer
used in engineering plastics and food packaging.
MGC has developed a unique polymerization
technology especially for the manufacture of MX Nylon. Its
production plants are located in Niigata, Japan and Colonial
Heights, Virginia, USA. More than twenty years of experience
in both process and product have contributed to the design
and operation of these highly automated plants. The plant
is designed with process controls that produce a consistent,
high quality product that meets customers' specifications.
The MAP plant is located near U.S. customers which reduces
lead and shipment times. This additional plant provides our
customers with better continuity of supply as both Niigata
and Virginia plants produce the same products. MAP products
will be supplied primarily to U.S. customers, but will be
marketed and sold globally.
MGC Advanced Polymers (MAP) is
majority owned by Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) along with
Marubeni Corporation. MGC and Marubeni Corporation join a
long and growing list of chemical companies choosing to invest
in the Richmond- Petersburg region. This 30 acre facility,
midway between Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia, was selected
for its proximity to customers, its ready access to major
transportation corridors and its ability to draw knowledgeable
employees skilled in the production of polymers. With an
initial production capacity of 24 million lbs/year, this
state-of-the-art, highly automated facility is designed for
ease of expansion. |
